Office 2016 includes functionality for navigating through your SharePoint Document Libraries directly from any of the Office applications (excluding Outlook) like you would if the documents were on your PC or a server.
Note:
This guide is for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. For instructions on using Outlook with a Document Library, then please click here.
Using SharePoint Document Libraries with Office Programs - Initial Configuration:
- Open Excel, and navigate to 'File' in the top left corner.
- Now, please click on the 'Open' tab in the left menu bar.
- Click on 'Add a Place', and then select 'Office 365 SharePoint'
- You'll now be prompted for your Office 365 email address, if you know this then please enter it. If not please contact Cilix.
- After entering your email, please click next.
- On the next page, you'll be prompted to enter your Office 365 password, if you know this then please enter it. If not please contact Cilix.
- After this, you may be prompted for your Office 365 username and password again, please enter them and click next or sign in.
- Now you should see a new entry that starts with 'Sites - ', please double-click on this, you should now see a window open (below) that will allow you to navigate through your SharePoint Document Libraries.
Note:
You will need to complete the above steps before saving or opening documents from SharePoint in your Office programs.
Opening & Saving Files In SharePoint Document Libraries from and Office Application
- Navigate to 'File' in the top left corner of your Office program.
- If you want to save a new file to SharePoint, then please navigate to 'Save As' in the left menu bar. If you want to Open a file from SharePoint then please click 'Open' in the left menu bar.
- under 'Open' text, to the right of the menu bar, you should see the entry we added earlier that starts with 'Sites -' if you double click this your SharePoint TeamSite will open in a new window (as seen above) and you can choose a location to save/open your file.
