Introduction
If you have been told that you are allowed to access a computer that is in the office from outside the office then you will need to follow these instructions to be able to access it. You will need to visit a website, log in and then you will be able to see the computers you are allowed to access. There are some other options available on the website which will be covered in another guide.
Steps
- Open an up-to-date version of Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (other browsers might work but it has been tested with these 3 browsers).
- Type the following into the address bar at the top and replace [your domain] with the part of your work e-mail address after the @ symbol:
https://remote.[your domain]/remote
For example, if your e-mail address was bill@microsoft.com then the web address you need to type is:
https://remote.microsoft.com/remote
You will then see a website similar to this - if you don't then please contact Cilix:
- Enter the credentials you use to access your computer in the office and click Sign in (do not tick 'Remember me on this device') You will then see something similar to this:
You will see any computers that you are allowed to access remotely on the left in the Devices section.
- Click on the computer you want to connect to.
Depending on which browser you're using will depend on what happens next:
Microsoft Edge - You will see some boxes appear down the bottom of the browser window - please click Save and then Open
Internet Explorer - You might see a box appear down the bottom of the browser window asking you to allow an ActiveX Client from Microsoft - please click Allow and then click on the computer you want to connect to again. You will then see a window similar to this one - if the details are correct then please tick the 'Don't ask me for remote connections from this publisher again' and then click Connect
Google Chrome - A file will be automatically downloaded and appear at the bottom of the browser window with your computer name - click on it
- Now enter your credentials again and click OK - do not click 'Remember me'. Make a mental note of the entries shown under 'These credentials will be used to connect to the following computers' as you will need to check these in the next step.
The first time you connect to a computer you will see a window similar to this one:
- Check that 'Name in the certificate from the remote computer' is mentioned in the previous screen where you entered your credentials. Tick the box next to 'Don't ask me again for connections to this computer' and click Yes
You will now be connected to the computer in your office as though you were there.
